How To Get Your Learner's Permit
Before you can drive any vehicle on the road, you must have a current driver’s licence or learner’s permit.
You can get a permit to drive a car when you turn 16. There are various age or experience criteria for other types of vehicles.
You can apply for a learner's permit at any licensing centre between 8:15 am to 3:45 pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
You will have to provide primary and secondary proof of identification (original documents only) when applying for permit.
If you are under the age of 18 when you apply, you must have a letter of consent signed by your parent or legal guardian.
To get your learners permit
To get a learner’s permit, you must pass some tests:
Learner’s Permit Theory Test: This will be conducted at the Licensing Centre when you apply for your licence. You should prepare for the test by studying the Drive Safe Handbook and taking the online learner’s permit practice quiz.
Eyesight Test: This will be conducted at the Licensing Centre when you apply for your licence and permit. If you need any visual aids to pass the eyesight test, your licence will be endorsed to show that you must wear those aids when driving.
Medical Test (if necessary): When applying for your licence you MUST declare whether you have any medical condition and/or take any medication that will affect your ability to drive on your application. The Customer Services Officer will let you know if you need to have a medical test before you get your permit.
When you have passed the required tests, you will be given your learner’s permit and you can start to learn to drive, but you must obey all the conditions stated on your permit.
Applying for an Additional Class of Licence
